Indoor and Outdoor Fluorescent Light Fixtures with Motion Sensors

With the cost of living continuously on the rise year after year it is no wonder that just about everyone you talk to these days is looking for ways to save money. And thanks to the internet and blogs like this one finding money saving tips has become fairly easy. But once you have read a few blog posts and articles on the subject you start seeing the same old list of things to do like insulating your home better, turning lights of when you leave a room and switching to CFL and LED light bulbs. These are all great things to do but it’s also nice to see some new ideas every now and then which is were this article comes in.

Fluorescent Light Fixtures with Motion Sensors

As mentioned above one of the best and easiest ways to save on electricity cost in your home is by switching all your lights to compact fluorescent or even the newer LED light bulbs. This is no new news to anyone that has read anything about saving money but there is a way to improve on this even more and that is by adding a motion sensor to these lights. By combining motion sensors and CFL’s you significantly increase the amount each light will save you. There is only one problem with this. Do to the way that fluorescent tube bulbs and CFL’s are made they are not compatible with most motion sensors. What happens is the light never really turns off all the way instead it only dims to a low glow. Now you can buy dimmable CFL bulbs which most manufacturers including GE, Sylvania and Purespectrum are making. These bulbs have had some design modifications which allow them to work with dimmer switches and some newer motion sensor lights. One good example of a CFL bulb that is can be used in light fixtures with motion sensors is the CFL Fluorescent 23w Par38 Outdoor Lights 4-pack by Feit. These indoor outdoor weatherproof floodlight bulbs have an average life of 10,000 hours as compared to only 2,000 hours for a standard floodlight. They also have a 1300 lumen light output making them comparable to a standard 120 watt bulb while using 75% less energy.

Or another option you have is to buy a motion sensor light fixture that is compatible with CFL’s like the American Tack (Hemco) OMLC3BC Outdoor Motion Activated Light Control. This light works with CFL, halogen and incandescent bulbs up to a maximum of 150 watts. It has a 180 degree detection zone, can detect motion up to 30 feet away and turns off ten minutes after the last motion is detected. Another fixture you might be interested in is the First Alert PIR725 Compact Fluorescent Bulb Compatible Motion Sensing Socket. It is for indoor use only but is very handy for closets, basements, laundry rooms or any other place you need instant light when you walk into a room. You simply screw the fixture into an existing light socket then screw your CFL bulb into the other end. It detects motion in a full 360 degrees in a 12 foot radius and works with CFL’s up to 50 watts and incandescent bulbs up to 100 watts. It also comes with a 3 year warranty.

There is no reason not to use the products mentioned above. They are not only easy to install they help to save you money not to mention they are very inexpensive to buy.
